fierybug08: wearing my hair in its natural state...

fierybug08: its fun. one of my friends created a group. we have monthly meetups. if i were living in AZ or GA, I couldn't do it. Too much humidity. But MD is cooling down. I think I will be able to deal with it. what's new with you?

Seventies Soulchild: Good afternoon fierybug08, daviss, and alt
daviss: well hello arc builder lol
Seventies Soulchild: glad to see you daviss lol
daviss: glad to see you too seventies
Seventies Soulchild: ok so yesterday I was going over these deed trusts for my great grandfather Scott Washington dated 1900 and 1899
daviss: is your boss into genealogy fierybug08?
Seventies Soulchild: The more paperwork I dig up on this man, the more the mystery deepens...
fierybug08: she wants to start. we were talking last week. She was interested and wants to start preserving family memories
Seventies Soulchild: that will be nice fierybug08
daviss: sounds like its worth digging into seventies
fierybug08: wow...seventies. that sounds interesting
Seventies Soulchild: Well I suspect his murder may have been connected to this land ownership.
fierybug08: :?
Seventies Soulchild: The land was formerly known as Woodland Plantation and was split between a family surname Ligon
daviss: Lots of Ligons
Seventies Soulchild: Because of a lawsuit filed by Isaiah Hargraves against Melissa Mazique there was a settlement and Isaiah sold his land. From the two deed trusts it looks like Scott got all of the land. There were about 6 parcels total And what is interesting is that second creek runs through the property Second creek is where a slave rebellion took place just before the USCW... in 1861
fierybug08: wow...that's interesting.
Seventies Soulchild: I would like to know more about the property and the Woodlands Plantation Also a Julia cherry is listed on the deed trust as the previous owner.
daviss: so you have to look at her also
Seventies Soulchild: I did. but there are several Julia Cherry's ... One in Marshall Co MS I was wondering if this Woodlands Plantation had a different name at one time.
fierybug08: hmm...it doesn't hurt to look at them. See if they come up in the census and who the neighbors are.
Seventies Soulchild: Maybe it was Second Creek Plantation.
daviss: find out when it was built
fierybug08: I wonder if you can look at the history of the deed trust.
Seventies Soulchild: There is zero information on a Woodlands Plantation online. I will definitely have to look at the court records.
fierybug08: this would be a great program. Very good way to show methodology.
Seventies Soulchild: today the place is known as Ben's Corner. I have no idea as to why. I'm curious about this too
fierybug08: maps, deed trusts, census. Primary and Secondary resources.
Seventies Soulchild: I have a copy of the land when the family group owned it just before it came into the hands of my family
daviss: where is the National Historical Preservation Society located
fierybug08: Well...I wonder if there books that were written about the region. I'm sure perhaps we could find some literature about early settlers? I could also check out the LOC for you.
daviss: is that near you fierybug08?
Seventies Soulchild: LSU has been my resource for info about the area in general.
fierybug08: I have a friend who works there. I also work in DC.
daviss: why don't you ask jhonora seventies
Seventies Soulchild: He is so busy... besides you know I LOVE to travel... :-)
daviss: oh ok
Seventies Soulchild: Maybe I can catch him in here on a Sat night
fierybug08: wow...it's one street over daviss [NHPS]
Seventies Soulchild: we talked briefly about the Evergreen plantation in New Orleans which was owned by the family who owned my family
daviss: fierybugo8 I wonder if they keep pics of schools
Seventies Soulchild: Here are my latest blog entries: http://thefamilygriot.blogspot.com/2011/08/book-review-150-years-later-broken-ties.html http://thefamilygriot.blogspot.com/2011/08/consanguinity-made-simple-courtesy-of.html Cut and paste now works! lol

Seventies Soulchild: :? :? I probably shouldn't have asked that question! lol
daviss: ok fierybug08 I will. I know that Fisk has the pictures I want but in order to get a copy it will cost 50 bucks
Selma: At this point daviss...Fisk needs all the money they can get
daviss: I can understand that Selma but I would be willing to bet that I am more broke than they are
Seventies Soulchild: daviss.. :}
Selma: You are probably right daviss
Seventies Soulchild: alt sure has been on the phone for quite some time...
daviss: my grandmother went to that school and I would love a picture

Seventies Soulchild: I guess he heard his name... lol
alt: cousin from New Jersey
daviss: there are two schools that I want Selma, both were helped built by one of my gggranduncles
Seventies Soulchild: I have another question. Anyone familiar with Hancock,GA history?
daviss: I called and talked to the lady in the archives and she said 50 bucks apiece. I then said thank you very much and hung up
Selma: Not I seventies
Seventies Soulchild: I bet that's a vkn type question
fierybug08: I am sure that I can find someone who could do it without charging.
Selma: Think she was putting you off...probably would make more money if they charged around $10
daviss: I would think so Sel
Seventies Soulchild: Its after 1... I've gotta go. Y'all have a very good afternoon.
daviss: now for another bummer is my contact with the Masonic Lodge in Dallas
Selma: You haven't had any luck with them at all daviss...

Selma: Can you find a genealogist who could go there for you?
daviss: then they wonder why :{ I may see if Lyndam has time to go by
Selma: Oh Lyndam is there?..she could probably help
fierybug08: or get a graduate library school student interested in archives
daviss: I am not sure how far she is from where they are located &*@@ she may call and get a response Lyndam is not related to you know who lol
fierybug08: i got to go too. See ya later.
