Photo of Former Slaves -- #1 of 2

The elderly couple in this picture were Uncle Abner and Aunt Eliza Bush. They were born into slavery and lived on the plantation of Richard Wright Adams in old Edgefield District, SC. Richard Wright Adams was my great-great-great grandfather. Uncle Abner Bush was the driver on the plantation and Aunt Eliza Bush was nurse to my great-grandfather (Dr. Manly Basil Timmons, D.D.S., born 1857) and his 8 siblings.

Born into slavery, they chose to stay with the family after the Emancipation and my great-grandfather took care of them for the rest of their lives. This photo hangs with many other family portraits. They were loved and cherished by my family and the feeling was very mutual. I have tried to locate any descendants but have been unable to. I am hoping that by sending a copy to your gallery, their story and their names will be preserved as they should be.
