Chaplin S. Knight (1919-1963) was the 2nd child born to Felmene C. Knight and Dozina Adina Varlack-Knight in British Virgin Islands. Chaplin, along with his sister and brother, Beula and Claude, were raised in Anegada, where they received their early education.

Chaplin later moved to Puerto Rico for better job opportunities where he met Catherine Eleanor Williams-Knight. They both married in July 1940 and moved to New York City to start their family. Catherine bore 4 sons, Eric, Ralph, Evan, and Carlos.

Chaplin had skills in electronics and was known for his work in fixing appliances and radios. From 1961-1963, Chaplin, his brother Claude Knight, and Claudius Pickering were employed to assist in installing a Telephone System in the Island of Tortola. They were known through out the island for their success in improving telephone system for the residents.

An article was written in February 2000 by Arthur Swain titled "40 YEARS OF BVI TELECOMMUNICATIONS" which recognized Chaplin S. Knight and others for their hard work and dedication for being the first to improve telecommunications in the island of Tortola.
