Re: Elijah "Lige" Rider

Hello Giselle!
My great great great grandfather Henry Rider Sr. is Elijah Riders' brother. According to the 1860 Slave Schedule of the Cherokee Nation, Saline District, Thomas L. Rider held eleven slaves. So far I've been able to correlate three of the males with Dawes Enrollment/Census Card numbers and entries on the Wallace and Kern-Clifton Rolls. They are:

Elijah"Lige"Rider, b. aprox. 1835, Census card #718. He is listed as Mulatto on the slave schedule. I was told by a friend at the OHS that he stated his parents names as Richard and Rachel Ratcliffe of the Flint District. He may have been born in Georgia. He married Lucy (maiden Name unknown), b.1830. Jerry Rider (son) b. 1856 and Ann Rider(daughter) b. 1861. This information comes from the Kern-Clifton Roll of Cherokee Freedmen and the Wallace Roll of Cherokee Freedmen. I haven't ordered the Dawes Enrollment Jacket for Elijah yet, but you can bet I will today!

Henry Rider (Sr.) b.aprox.1841 in Georgia, d.1881 in Cooweescoowee District,Cherokee Nation, Indian Territory (I think). Listed as Mulatto on same 1860 Slave Schedule.

James Rider, b.aprox.1845. Cherokee Freedmen #1577, Census Card #624. Sam Rider (Son) b.1871, John Rider (son) b.1870, Tom Rider (son) b.1875, Clem Rider (son) b.1892, all born in the Cooweescoowee District, Cherokee Nation. Listed as Black on slave schedule.

William Rider, b. 1848. M.Edie or Eada(maiden name unknown)b.1836. Bob Rider (son) b. 1873, Mary Rider (daughter) b. 1878 all in the Cooweescoowee Dist. Listed as Mulatto.

I am desended from Henry Rider. I have more information on our ancestors, so please contact me so I can share it with you!!!
