Re: Reference Book~Who Was Who Among The Southern

The type of information I found in the book I initially shared with the Afrigeneas chat list in the form of several postings pertaining to slave owning families significant to my research specifcally (LOVE/COLBERT).

The book included biographies of just about every mixed blood and anglo american residing in the Chickasaw and Choctaw nations prior to removal there records of property in MS & AL including the number of slaves owned and migrated with to OK I.T. circa 1830's and 1840's.

The records listed the Deed books the information could be found in. The county possessing the information in MS & AL and the year it was recorded.

It is my opinion this information would provide significant clues to possible names dates of purchase dates of birth familial ties what ever documentation generated from the ownership of slaves and property by the members of the various Five Tribes.

I have not seen the entire book but I have sent the author my $25.00 for a copy. If I can just hook up with a researcher in MS or AL in the counties of record(Marshall Franklin DeSoto Colbert) I could hopefully began an extraction process that could generate more records concerning the lives of the Freedmen of the Five Tribes. In my case the Chickasaw's and Choctaw's.

An example of the material can be accessed from the Afrigeneas Archives. BTW I would like to submit much of my information to this site but because there is no capability to paste the files I have it is a matter of convience and time that I can't sit and type the records over again. Other than submitting the information to the Afrigeneas Slave Data Project which I think is admirable and a great service. I would like to see some similar service for the needs of the Freedmen of the Five Tribes researcher. In other words a data base accessible for information retrieval. Any suggestions? Anyone?
