Re: Majority Rules - Creek Nation
In Response To: Re: Majority Rules - Creek Nation ()
Due to this being a public forum, I will reserve the majority of my response for face to face communication.
Mary, that is correct, you would have had to be a Creek citizen to get in the building, however that had nothing to do with the lack of interest by Creek Freedmen in Okmulgee.
Lack of interest? Last time I checked showing up to something such as the convention-where it was clearly outlined cards only- may have done more harm than good to our cause. I doubt this means "lack of interest" but simply time to think of an alternate route in which we can show the nation that we are willing to fight for the right of our birthplace.
It was even noticeable by the opposition to the freedmen..."where are they, if they really cared they would be here", stated by some people...it was hard to argue against that...
LOL, hard for who to argue against that? I'm sure it wasn't hard to argue where they were when certain individuals were posing for pictures in Ebony, being interviewed as if they were a freedmen or the moses of the freedmen for the Los Angeles Times, and appearing places with the Freedmen as if they were aligned for the purpose. A simple response such as "they weren't allowed in here" would suffice for the time being giving the "opposition" time to think.
I can speak for my brothers and sisters when I say that the reason some of the changes were proposed was due to talking with current citizens and encouraging them to send in proposals for CHANGE in the Creek nation. The reason their was no grand staged protest is because I'm sure people weren't to thrilled about having the police called on them for distubing the peace due to the nature of what was going on inside. I agree with a previous poster. There is no time for excuses but rather unity among the freedmen so that we are not always looking or leaning to another to be the sole defender of our cause. We appreciate the efforts of those willing to assist but at the end of the day this injustice is our battle to "fight".
