Rodslen Brown

I am so sorry to hear of Rodslen's death. Although I did not know her personally, I can see that she was very much loved and gifted in many areas.

I am glad to know that Rodslen became a citizen of the Cherokee nation and she expressed gratitude, although she never mentioned the names of her ancestors on the Dawes Rolls.

Rodslen in an article stated that she was one of the lucky ones to become a citizen of the Cherokee nation because the rolls were closed in 2007 to other Cherokee freedmen descendants that could have qualified for citizenship.

In 2007 citizenship requirements changed by an amendment that those enrolling now had to be Indian by blood.

I am happy to know of my ancestors on the
Dawes Rolls from the Creek and Chickasaw nations. Although I am not a citizen of those nations, my bloodline to those ancestors will never change. I will always be connected.

Amendments, laws, etc. can change at anytime by the Five Civilized or other tribes, particularly amending blood quantum requirements that affect citizenship. You can be a citizen one day and not one the next day because of an amendment.

I salute Rodslen for her Efforts!! Well done.
