William Childers was a non-Indian he was John Ridges right-handed man. He was a caretaker of land and properties of Mr. Ridge when he was away to Washington, on Cherokee business. William Ran a Ferry in Rome Georgia for the Ridges. Left early to Indian Territory to scout for land to set up a store which was around Honey Creek area, Grand Lake Area now. Had a family with the slave? servant? or relative Mariah Shoeboots. the years don't add or match that she is to be Dolly's child. But due to the fact John Ridge and William Childers went to Washington County Arkansas to free Mariah and children's status as Freedmen. Makes me think that they were slave category. Then after the assassination of the Ridges the store was disbanded and the Childers left Cherokee Nation to the Cheyaha Tribal town in Muscogee / Creek Nation. William ran his own Ferry across the Verdigris River and the Childers Children were grown in the Creek ways and customs and eventually adopted in the Creek Nation by the Council in 1869. Most all of the Childers in the Creek nation is all descended from William and Mariah.
