Re: Explanations of Cherokee Dawes Roll Sections

I wish they would just harp on the treaty itself. We all know that alot of them were mixed ancestry . I hear the arguement of some having Indian blood. The Indian Freedmen or the SLAVES where is the arguement for them ? Me personally I have Indian blood Yet to prove it,
but that isn't my concern right now its the citizenship of those that didn't . We all know that this vote was of ignorance, greed & racism of some of those who just don't want to acknowledge that Freedmen are a part of their history. But not lets forget the ones that were uneducated to the facts probably good people. The treaty was based on citizenship not race. And I think that is what the media and others need to know and to challenged that. I feel that if the Cherokee can be paid federal money with taxes we have paid they should honor there treaties.
If they want to be a soverign nation than pay your own bills .They shouldn't depend on federal monies.I feel the BIA shouldn't acknowledge a Indian Nation that only acknowledge those of Indian Blood & not their citizens of over 100 years plus. Just like the Indians feel this is own to them also the Freedmen slaves that busted their tails to make the nation that it is.Now I know what Indian Giver means !
