Definition of the Term 'By Blood'
First, I want to thank Mr. Cornsilk for his considered reply. I an still absorbing the information he presented, and I re-visit his answer in an effort to come to a better understanding.
My first reaction on first reading Mr Cornsilk's message was the question: what does the phrase 'Cherokee by blood' mean?
In my genealogy research, I try to establish the blood relationships of the individuals I am researching. 'By blood' to me means that there is a connection based on the individual's bloodline. For example, my bloodline includes that of my father and his ancestors, and that of my mother and her ancestors.
If I am correct in my understanding of part of the issues involved, then the Oklahoma Cherokee Tribe's efforts may result in a new interpretation of the term 'by blood'. Am I mistaken?
P.S. Obtaining wisdom through knowledge is my ultimate goal. I hope those of you who use this forum bear with me as I plow the furrow where my seeds of knowledge will be planted.
