Congressional Black Caucus
The Choctaw-Chickasaw Freedmen Project in conjunction with the Estelusti Foundation has posted a mailing list of the Black Congressional Caucus for all your letter writers.
The Cherokee Freedmen Descendants and their supporters need your help by writing to your own Congressperson as well as the CBC to inform the members of what has transpired over the weekend. Let them know how you stand on the vote to disenfranchise people who descend from citizens of the Cherokee Nation and how they have been stripped of their citizenship rights.
The Five Tribes will be asking the Congressional Black Congress to support them restore funding for the "Johnson-O'Malley Education Program," a program that would affect those persons just expelled from the tribe with their tax dollars. Until an investigation is begun on the racist practices of the tribes, the Congressional Black Caucus, a long time supporter of ALL initiatives pertaining to Native Americans should withold their votes on the floor of Congress.
If the Cherokees and the other four Nations want funding votes from the Black Caucus, they should not be carrying their petitions based on the blatant attempts at ethnic cleansing demonstrated by the recent vote.
It is interesting how the tribal leaders want solidarity from black folk only to turn around and deny them the ability to use what is rightfully part of their rights as citizens in the same nations.
