There was NO Muslim influence in the Cherokee Nation. The Melungeons are mixed African, white and claim unproven Indian ancestry. They are not Cherokees, although some Cherokee families here in Oklahoma descend from a Melungeon named Sandal Goins who married first a Fields and second a Still. Stand Watie was well read and I'm sure he probably knew of many great leaders from the classical books his brother Elias Boudinot left lying around the house. And no, Elias Boudinot was not one of the first presidents of the Continental Congress, despite having the same name. And finally, Stand Watie's father was David Oowatie, his surname meaning "the Ancient." He was NEVER known by the word Ramadan.
