Re: Cherokees violate federal law
In Response To: Re: Cherokees violate federal law ()
It is difficult to say. The BIA in Washington, DC is heavily populated with Cherokees. The CN has a lobbying office in DC that spends thousands, perhaps millions of tribal dollars to influence Congress. The BIA took a stand on the Freedmen several times in the past and has always backed down when the issue got hot. They did pull the rug from under the Seminole Nation when they attacked the rights of their Freedmen citizens. But the Seminoles had very little political clout and few dollars. I think the BIA will not act until the federal court makes a ruling. But I pray those in the Department of Interior have the will and the fortitude to withstand the onslaught of the CN political and financial machine and do what is right and just for the Freedmen. If they do not act, I think the federal court will act for them.
