Re: Creek Freedmen's Rights Under the 1866 Treaty
In Response To: Creek Freedmen's Rights Under the 1866 Treaty ()
Regarding the Creek Freedmen it is important to write to your legislators in Congress especially members of the black caucus regarding the treaty pertaining to citizenship rights for the Creek freedmens. Congress is responsible to mandate the Creek nation to reverse their decision to exclude Creek Freedmen based on the original treaty agreement with the United States. If this is not accomplished the next step is for the Creek Freedmen and all other Freedmen to petition Congress for sovereignty as a separate nation.
In addition, to these recommendations a complaint may be filed with the United Nations against the US for denial of citizenship rights under the terms of the original treaty. These are the necessary actions and steps to proceed to resolve the issue of citizenship rights.
