Re: Amon B. ANDERSON/Newspaper Account
With at least two separate sources, (Ruth Wilson and Newspaper account) your are close to validating the story, I usually prefer three, but in this case two is good. A person named Sandra L Hollingsworth also claims that E Anderson is her "ggggggrandfather."
The Coles apparently have along history in Illinois and Ohio. As I said earlier, Native American and African Americans often hide and switched their ethnic identities depending on the political and social climate of the region they lived in, I don't think the census error was accidental. This phenomenon wasn't any diiferent than the African-American one for "passing for White." Lawrence and the surrounding areas were also significant to the Underground Railroad. There are some very intriguing stories about Ezekiel's town when you get the chance to read them. There are also some Anderson's on the Dawes Rolls. You may want to check and see if any are descendant of Ezekiel and Winnie Anderson. To me that would be my third and final reference.
Good Luck, Allen
