Re: Generations from Slavery ?
In Response To: Re: Generations from Slavery ? ()

I am 6th generation of women who descended from Slavery in South Carolina on my mothers side and my daughter is the 7th. Hannah (1st)b.1834, Winnie(2nd)b.1863, Hattie(3rd)b.1882, Jennie b.1911(4th), my mother(5th)b.1935, myself (6th)and my daughter(7th). We have a total of 6 generations of the name Jennie in our family history. Louis Mack was born in May 1827 in South Carolina and his wife Hannah(my gggrandmother)was born in April 1834 in SC and died April 15, 1915 in Florence SC. Louis, Hannah and most of the Mack children are all buried in Beulah AME Church Cemetery in Mayesville SC. They had a total of 9 children. I have traced the Mack family from Swimming Pens Sumter South Carolina in 1870-1880 census records and Sumter SC in 1900-1930. I have not locate the Mack's slave owners names or origin of their last name, but Louis, Hannah and their 4 children were living next door to a white farmer name Henry Shaw b.1799 in 1870.In the 1870 census records for Swimming Pens SC. Henry Shaw’s total value for his farm in was $10,00. I am assuming that my ancestors was living on his land since the were living right next door to him. Also Henry Shaw had a 14 year old daughter name Louisa and Louis and Hannah had a 14 year old daughter name Louisa also.My ggrandmother Winnie Mack b.1863 and died September 16, 1921 was Louis and Hannah Mack 4th child. Winnie Mack married Robert Witherspoon in 1880 in Sumter SC. They had a total of 4 biological children and 2 grandchildren they raised. The Mack’s and Witherspoon’s owned their own farm in 1900-1930 in Sumter SC during the harsh treatment to African Americans in the deep south. Hattie Witherspoon(my great-grandmother)was Winnie and Robert Witherspoon 1st child b.1882 in SC. Robert Witherspoon great grandfather Will/William Witherspoon was a free slave in 1822 in Sumter SC. William Witherspoon was freed by Joel L. Green a slave owner. William's former slave owner was Hugh Porter and Mary Elizabeth Witherspoon. William Witherspoon is listed in Hugh Porter probate records in 1813 being sold for $600.
