Its amazing that John Bettis is such a common name in your family as well as mine. My mother's name was Ollie Bettis Stevens. My maternal grandfather's name was John Bettis as well as an uncle and a first cousin. My brother is also named John. My Bettis Family still owns property adjacent to Bettis Academy. If you should find any more information explaining how my mother's family was able to obtain hundreds of acres of land so soon after the "War" I would be very interested in our shared history.
