Re: Generations from Slavery ?

Wow!... what a long thread, and a very good and thoughtful question. This topic needs it's own category!
My grand mother Carlie Ann Allen was born in 1898, in Wingina, Nelson, VA - Her father, Alex Allen was born in 1868. - Now think about this... slavery officially ended in 1865, which means Alex was only three years old. - His parents George Allen was born in 1820, and was a slave of William Daniel Ligon, n Shipman, Nelson, VA - Alexander's mother was Anna Shan, born in 1831, and was a slave of Robert Rives of Oak Ridge, in Amherst, VA. Anna is buried at Oak Ridge.
Many individual of our current generation, very slavery as something that happened way back in ancient times.. not realizing that they are just 3 - 4 generations removed from slavery.
