Great great grandmother Easter Harris McMannen was born a slave and freed between 1861-62. Her husband Nathan Turrentine McMannen was born a slave in NC.
Great great grandmother Julia Forsythe Lipscomb was born a slave, in NC as was her husband Samuel Lipscomb.
Great great grand parents William Smith and his wife Sarah (MNU) were born slaves in Miss.
Great great grand parents Evan Johnson and his wife Nancy(MNU) were born slaves in Miss.
I have not been able to determine if great great parents Charles Maples (Civil War Vet) or his wife Elizabeth Byas were slave or free.
I have not been able to determine if my Great great grandparents Carney were slave or free.
Great great great grandmother Rebecca Kelso was a FPOC.
At 56, I am generally 4 generations from slavery, and the last known former slave in the family died in 1968. Great granduncle Nathan McMannen was born a slave in 1859 and is buried in the Turrentine Cemetery in Orange County, NC.
