Response To: Re: Nelson County VA plantations (Derek Nicholas) That is notable, and thank you for your response; however, the Frances that I mentioned was born around 1817 and had children by the name of Mosura (Missouri), William, Columbus, Shaffer (various spellings), James, Thomas. I am of Shaffer's lineage. Frances is listed in the 1850 and 1860 census. There is a tie with the Hite name.

Okay, so I tracked down Shafer (spelled Shaver) in 1860. So he was the son of Frankie Vaughn. (according to the 1860 census).

See, what oftens throws us off, are these estimated birth years, which is often documented in a 10 year range, which causes many to discount the individual as being your ancestor. - Hey!... who said this would be easy!... But perseverance is the key.

This obstacle was one of my greatest challenges (with the exception of for the misspelling of names delima) of coarse.

The record shows all of her chillin's you mentioned above.
