In Response To: Re: Nelson County VA plantations (Derek Nicholas) I am researching Frances Vaughan (Frankie) listed in 1850 and 1860 Nelson County, VA census. Have hit a blank wall trying to connect to previous generation before her. IS there any documented connection to her and other Vaughans in the same generation in those censuses?

Well. Franky born Jan. 18, 1832 slave of William Massie of "Pharsalia Plantation", is a prime example of this "brick- wall" explanation I've been posting. I can't gather any additional information prior to her individual bloodline, other than the other 200 some other slaves on these plantations who intern, took or were assigned other last names.

Each slave family line, whether it's the Meads, Madison, Vaughn, Key, Cash, Whitlock, Thompson, Oakrum, Braxton, Toliver, Steptoe, Gaines of the other 12 or so slave families housed on the Massies Plantations consisting of Pharsalia, Level Green, Montebello, or Three Springs... ALL ends or begins at thier owners family lines.

Same instances appears on the Cocke, Cabell, Rives and Rose Plantations of Nelson County.

Without a copy of a bill of sale, or slave auction... we're screwed! - The information listed above is from William Massie's will and slave register dated 1840 - 1862.

At best, I can give you the birth, death dates, and marriages orf her chillins' she had with Anderson White (also a slave of Massie)
