You're welcome! Your picture shows have a lovely family! I have found a wonderful article called "A Chronicle of Black History in Liberty County, Georgia" by Lillie Walthour Gillard.
It begins with the words:
"To understand and appreciate the history of the Blacks in Liberty County, one must know something about the history of the Midway Congregational Church. The two are vitally connected. This story begins in a little town called Dorchester in England some three hundred and forty-nine years ago."
My ancestor, John Bettis/Betts whose estate was settled in 1803 at Edgefield, SC was a member of the Midway Congregational Church. An earlier ancestor, also named John Betts/Bettis was also there, arriving as a charter member of the Midway Congregational Church who removed to Liberty Co. GA in 1752 from Dorchester, South Carolina. He was a great uncle to the 1803 John Bettis/Betts.
This is a wonderful "must read" if you are of African descent and your ancestors found themselves at Liberty Co., Georgia.
