Re: Generations from Slavery ?
In Response To: Re: Generations from Slavery ? ()
My paternal GF George Walker was born 1859-1862 in MS. My paternal GM Bertha Dobbins was born in the 1890's so she was the child or gr-child of slaves. Don't know their names, though. My paternal GF George first married in 1883 in MS to Sarah Adams (born 1862 MS) and had a large family. He was one of those old goat widowers who remarried to a much younger woman in the 1920's and had my dad, his last child. Like a lot of families I have some cousins who are much older in their late 70's and mid 80's. My half-sister and I are the same age or younger than a lot of their children. My mother's paternal GGP's were born late 1850's & early 1860's. Her maternal GGF James Nation was born 1848 in AL, and her maternal GGM Jane Ford was born about 1864 in AL. And I'm a little brain-dead after all that to figure out how many generations removed I am from slavery. But at least on my dad's side it is a bit too close for comfort. Georgia Walker-Adams
