And first off, my deepest sympathy in the loss of your daughter. My ministry is to the sick and shut-in and those in bereavement. Take care of that wonderful gift that she left you.

I made a post about two and 1/2 wks ago looking for my grandfather Walter Scruggs who was born in Columbia, TN and grew up in Franklin. His wife's name was Pearl (or Pearlie) Scurggs. My mother's name was Minnie Pearl Scurggs-Vanleer. I wrote and book and thought that I was through with it when I was taken in the direction of genelogical research.

I have just started. No one in my family has ever attempted a search before. I had no birth or death certificiates or pictures of my grandparents. So I guess I have made pretty good progress starting from scratch.

You can get the book written by Afi-Odelia Scruggs, Clamining Kin, Confronting the History of an African American Family. You can get it at the library.

Feel free to email me. Joan Vanleer-Moore, Nashville, TN
