Re: LADD Family Research?
In Response To: LADD Family Research? ()
I took a look at the census image you mentioned in De Soto Parish, LA, and what I see is a bit different than what you see.
Archibald and Annie Ladd were listed as living in a separate dwelling and a separate household from Martha Millhouse. Though Martha's occupation is listed as a domestic servant, since she wasn't living with the Ladd's it's quite possible she worked for someone else.
I noticed that on that page and the following page, there were several other Simon families, most of whom were headed by men who were born in Alabama. It is likely that they are in some way related to your Edith Simon and it might be a good idea to try to locate them in earlier census records, if possible.
I'm curious, however, as to how you came to the conclusion that Edith Simon travelled to Louisiana with Archibald Ladd? Is there some oral history in your family that mentions this, or are you simply looking at the proximity of their names and origins on the census schedule?
We're happy to help you as much as we can, so please tell us whatever you can about your basis for the Ladd/Simon relationship.
Wishing you well in your search.
