Recently I found some more information.
I found a George Shepard in 1840 Census
County: James City
State: Virginia

Also a schedule I also found this person a free person
there was also a John Shepard listed also a free person

In the 1870 census in Washington County,Texas there was a woman living with them Emily Wess it stated she was mother of George but I think she might been mother of wife Caroline. She would haven't been old enough to be his.
Any information on the Wess name?
