Re: MAMIE BELL/TN b. 1896
In Response To: Re: MAMIE BELL/TN b. 1896 ()

I'll answer as many ? as I can. I don't know where in TN Mamie was born but her birth place(TN)is on my dad's birth certificate. She is buried in Henry County, KY, b. 6-21-1896, d. 4-22-1933. I do not know anything about her parents or any possible siblings. I don't have a death cert. but guess I should try to get it. The family you found in 1930 census in Shelby Co. IS my family. Mamie's first two children, James and Willie, were born in TN while her third, Marvin, my dad, was born in Shelby Co. On my dad's birth cert. Mamie is listed as white, but my mother always told that there was Indian on dad's mother's side of the family. My dad's sister's son never heard this story. I was only six when dad died, so anything told came from my mother. My sister remembers hearing that when my gfather married Mamie and brought her back to KY that his family didn't want anything to do with them. My dad, and his brother and sister that I knew growing up, were sort of dark complected, so since I couldn't find anything on Mamie as white with the correct birth date, I thought maybe I should consider her being black. Maybe I'm going about this the wrong way, I don't know. Still looking!
