Re: SPEED Family, from GA and AL
In Response To: SPEED Family, from GA and AL ()

I am looking for living descendants of Charlotte SPEED, b. GA abt. 1810 > L.S. SPEED , b. GA 1828 > Olin SPEED, b. 1852. My ggrandfather, Olin/Olen SPEED, had a number of children, whose names were: Henry, Lawrence, Frederick Douglas, Wade, Bishop, Terrel, Joseph, Olen, Jennie, Carrie, Snow B, Louis, and 4 unknown. Although the family appears to have originaed in GA, post-slavery they lived primarily In Bullock Co., AL, from at least 188 (they are in the Bullock Co. census for that year) until at least the 1930s.

I have have accummulated a fare amunt of basic information about the family, but I have two brick walls. The first is 1) discovering WHERE in GA the family originated; and, b) I have firtually losted all contact with later generations of the family, the children on Olin SPEED and his wife, Salle LEONARD. I am still hoping to hook-up with living cousins, so that I can learn more about my current extended family. To this end, i wonder if anyone has found a modern-day serch site for looking up African-Americans, like an "Afican-American White Pages"? Since 1930 was the year of the last published census, it is difficullt to do a global search on most search sites and get any results beyond 1930. Googling a rather common name like "Henry" doesn't help much either. I will be grateful for any suggestion from persons who can help me find my SPEED relatives in particular or in locating directories of African-Americans, in general.
