Re: Seeking infomation on my gggg mother

UPDATE MARCH 18 2019

In 2008 a interview was conducted on the grand daughter of Malinda Marsalis, born in 1905, she was a 103 yrs old at the time of the interview, her name for the record was THELMA THOMPSON "DICKEY" daughter of DOLSEY THOMPSON, daughter of MALINDA MARSALIS.

Five interviews were conducted 2007-2008 on the living grand children of MALINDA MARSALIS, four of which didn't offer much, but when it came to THELMA's interview, she was the most informative, maybe because she would of been in her late teens to adult hood at the time of Malinda's passing in the 1920s.

I asked THELMA if she knew who Malinda's parents were and she stated no, I then asked if Malinda had siblings she stated yes then named them.
She stated that Malinda had sister named Fannie and a brother name Seb. All info per my interview with THELMA THOMPSON DICKEY. She also provided MALINDA'S final resting place!

After that interview ended it as time to research Fannie and Seb which turned out to be easy. I started with Fannie Marsalis whom i found on the 1900 census living with her brother, Seaborn Marsalis. Fannie's b of 1846 seems to coincide with the estate papers of Peter H Marsalis. The 1900 census even tells how old the child Fanny was on the estate papers by the dob. So I was interested in who this SEABORN MARSAILIS was?

After researching Seaborn I came across the 1880 census in Amite co. Mississippi and found the name of Seab Marsalis, no way is this Seb that Thelma spoke of?
And just like that Thelma helped me knock down the infamous wall. And after further research it led me to Nelson Marsalis house who can be found on the 1870 census . There is a Harriet Brown present along with a MALINDA BROWN and AGNES BROWN, who are assumed to be the children of Harriett, but AGNES does not fit the bill, as a researcher I know that mis-identification is often common through out all of the census records. Harriett can also be found on the estate papers, also she is found on the 1880 census living will her mother who now is a widow, HARRIETT NOW CARRY'S HER SURNAME OF Marsalis.

I know that its been 11 years has passed since my last post but i needed facts before i would post here again!

To all future researchers of Malinda Marsalis so you don't get stuck on shiny objects like ERASMUS MARSALIS 1848.
He looks good but means nothing when it comes to discovering how Malinda got her last name.

Alot of researchers tried to give her kids a father while searching for her (Malinda)

Well based on something i learned from Thelma Dickey 1n 2008 has led me to who i think fathered Malinda son ras.
At this time i am i possession of 3 photo's of the said father an two of his sons, ras looks just like all three. AND yet it still means nothing not until i have DNA confirmation, which is being done right now!
I well say the test is not on any Marsallis family members.

I'm looking for infomation on my gggg mother
i found her in 1880 census, up-to 1920! sh
but i can't find her before that in order to find out who her parents are.

if any one can help me with this please help!
