[Personalities] Edith's Story
Edith Ware McClinton's story about the last lynch mob in Little Rock, Arkansas, about her hard life, blindness and about how her grandfather and his brother were lynched - taken from the field in front of her father. Edith's book "Scars From a Lynching" tells the story in detail. Edith became a world traveler after she lost her sight. She was an educator, missionary and an amazing person. She is 90 years old, blind - writes books, poetry, songs, plays organ and piano, enrolled in a computer class at age 89 and celebrated her 90th birthday last September with relatives and friends from all over the United States. The story itself has been nominated for a national award. Edith was my grandmother's niece. Her own great-grandmother had quite a story also. During African American History month when we have church celebrations, I always choose to honor members of my own family and this year, I chose Edith.
