Re: Setting Forum Board Standards

hey! Vitriolic
well personally i suspect an over reaction on the whole issue, this board is well mannered and tame, even timid compared to others. and for the most part is well monitored by the posters.
i believe it's safe to say that we understand that there is is pos and neg in all things, it's providence, +&- work hand in hand and seem required for the flow of existence in all things.
so while personal attacks, confrontation, etc can turn into a totally neg situation, there are times when they can be used for pos even though they seem uncomfortable. discomfort is good, if we couldn't feel the discomfort of pain we'd not know the warning of injury, disease, etc, get it?
now enter, the complexity of trying to monitor verbal transaction; people are personally connected to their opinions, so if you disagree with them presenting veritable facts, they will take it personally most folx are uncomfortable with this, so much so, they would rather stay wrong than than humble themselves to truth....
which is worse, leaving people in ignorance cuz we fear their discomfort, or confronting them with alt perspectives that can give birth to progressive thinking......the varibles involved in this decision are trying and complicated by emotion, nevertheless, the opportunity for lessons in dealing with these transactions do exist and deserve attention, and it takes a cerrtain amount of skill and experience to monitor this personal tranaction in a therapeutic manner
albeit, the avoidance method is always an option at a cost, so be it.
personally i'm indifferent as to what standards are set, after all the owner's are entitled to set their agenda regardless of how we feel, it's their site, perhaps the sister is right, the invitation above is biting off more than what they want to chew on, i can definitely respect that.
i'm on and have been on boards, chat and lists much more intense and they survive and thrive through those that participate, monitors usually don't get involved until things reveal themselves fully, cuz most of the time, the members handle mischief effectively.

Endless Respect to you Vitriolic
