Re: A chapter of family history

Hi Art, Being a Laforce slave in Canada was not something you wanted to advertise. John Daddy Hall, my GG Grandfather, is a memorable character in the Owen Sound, Ontario area but the stories conflict which sent me on my search. I have found documents that proved he was in Ohio and settled in by Fort Malden at the same time. I have a facebook page John Daddy Hall with details and blocks of my research and uploaded the basics to My Black Canadian Ancestors on FB. My initial reasoning were the repeated names he had passed down to his children and his location before and after being captured during the War of 1812. Hannah, who I believe was his mother went missing at the same time as he did and he was recorded as stating she was with him. Hannah was released by Mr Fisher and she returned to her mother's side which should mean she was free but James Girty bequeathed them to his children, more so for protection than ownership, Hannah was documented as being John believed he was born a free Canadian and considering he could read and write lead me back to the Laforce slaves. Jack York testified he slept with Hannah at James Girty's place during his trial, charges laid by a woman captured during the same raids. Lots of legal crimes and lies but please have patience with my line of thought. James Girty married Betsy but passed her off as part native. His brother Simon married Catherine Malott who he had captured so I think it was protocol. Did you find something concrete as your connection? I may be reaching for straws but someone taught a little black/yellow boy to read and write. The story has many more twists and turns while I am still reeling over the Laforce link. Still searching, Wanda
