African American DNA "Roots Project"

The African American DNA "Roots Project" has been jointly conducted by the Boston University School of Medicine in conjunction with the University of South Carolina (website address is: The goal of the project is to reconnect African Americans with their roots through DNA technology. I am currently participating in the project and awaiting the results. Definitive results are not guaranteed but are likely. My question to all of you is twofold. If you underwent DNA analysis and it yielded surprising results regarding your race and/or ethnicity. Would it fundamentally change the your own views on race or ethnicity? Or how you self-identify? Secondly, let us just say - hypothetially - that everyone had access to this analysis. Would it substantially alter the way we as a nation think about race and ethnicicty? Would it eliminate racially superior viewpoints upon which the nation was built - and upon which it was built? I am interested to know your views on this subject since this Forum is devoted to issues of research on one's multiethnic, multicultural, and multiracial families.
