[OH] JONES family Greenfield, OH
I am looking for info or tips into researching a common surname of JONES in Greenfield, Highland County, OH.
Specifically I am looking for information on my 3rd great grandmother - Nancy JONES. She married James Edward ROBINSON but I have not been able to locate their marriage record. I have found them listed on various census records with their children and her year of birth always differed it seems from year to year. The only records I have regarding her is a record of her death I found on ProQuest. I have put in a request for her death certificate through our vital statistics office here in Toledo, Ohio where she died in hopes of finding out more about her lineage as I could not find the record or an image of her death certificate on Family Search.
Only info I have is that she was born in Greenfield, Highland County, Ohio between 1845 and 1855. Nancy JONES ROBINSON was the informant on her daughter Florence's death certificate and stated she was from Greenfield, OH. An older relative who is still alive and in his 90s lived with her daughter, my 2nd great grandmother, Florence ROBINSON WHITFIELD. He told me that family lore was that Nancy's parents were free people of color and that she may have been descendant of run away slaves who settled in the Highland County, Ohio area. Nancy's surname upon her death was BAKER. James ROBINSON died in 1910 and she re-married after his death. She died in 1919. Any information about her or just about Greenfield, Ohio and its free people of color in the 19th century, prior to the civil war would be appreciated.
