Re: [CA] Los Angeles Black newspaper

Dear Forum members,

Dear Gail,

I'm still plugging away on my hundred years' in a house in LA novel. I finished one draft, but have to clean up the character most like me, as she's a bit whiny and neurotic ! I've also added that her mother is a Child Survivor of the Holocaust, who was hidden, and who alone of 61 family members survived because she could "pass" for Polish (a really common story from that time.) I think I'm exploring how external events, like harrassment, pogroms (which were, for Jews in Eastern Europe, the equivalent of what happened in Greenwood, Ms. or Oklahoma, the powerful sweeping in and burning, raping, murdering the minority), wars and centuries of bigotry, can be internalized as a kind of racial self-hatred, and how to undo that.

And I'm trying to write the stories more together, which is hard to explain. I could send you a piece and you'd see what I mean. . .

Anyway. Hard to write with two extremely lively children. The baby is two now, and my son is eight and exploding through the house and its summer. Wish me luck.

I'm still trying to locate one of the three children of Dr. George Frazier and Anna Jackson, George, Jr.; McDonald, or I forget her name Yvonne? with no luck so far. Or Leroy Weekes or one of the other docs involved in building West Adams Hospital.

I'm also trying for an obit for Anna, and to reach the Charles R. Drew society in LA. I can't find a phone number for them.

Heigh ho. Off to bike to the library with the baby in a trailer. Lots of hills, but not too hot.
