There is an entire branch of Robert Smalls’ family missing from the book. Elizabeth “Lizzie” Smalls Bampfield was my great-great grandmother. Her daughter Julia Bampfield Stinson had five children, two sons and three daughters. Her daughter, Thelma Stinson is not mentioned in the book. Thelma married Palmer Boyd and was my grandmother. Her daughter Julia had no children. Her son, Palmer Boyd, Jr had three children; me, my sister Cheryl and my brother Palmer III.
