Pensacola's Elected Officials

Greetings Everyone:

Attached is the url from the Pensacola Beach Association. The website lists African-American public officials during Reconstruction. It includes the first black mayor of Pensacola, Salavtore Pons and includes a profile and photo of Zebulon Elijah elected to the House of Representatives in 1871.

Many many thanks to the Pensacola Beach Association for its webpage on "Prominent Pensacola 19th Century African Americans" . They also credit one of Florida's leading historians and author Canter Brown "Florida's Black Public Officials 1867-1924" (U. of Ala. Press 1998) as the source and inspiration for this page.

Look for the announcement of an interview with Dr. Brown with Afrigeneas later this year.

Enjoy!
