Freedmen Establish Cemetery
Have any of you ever heard of a Shrewsbury or Camp Parapet Cemetery? It was founded in 1872, by the black residents of Camp Parapet, the antiquarian name for a community in Jefferson Parish. The neighborhood is also referred to as Harlem or Shrewsbury. The tradition, never strictly enforced, has it that the Baptists are buried in the rear and the Methodists in front.
