Re: [LA] Case Study from Deed/Conveyance records

Looking for Rosetta Miller's ancestry. ¹
I found Rosetta in 1930 caddo parish, LA.

1930 ²

1213 Fannin St., Shreveport, LA
118 124 Anderson, Fannie Hd R neg 45 S $25 LA(3) - all Wash&Iron Private Family
Miller, Rosetta Mother Neg 70 Wd None LA(3)
Gay, J.W. Lodger Neg 25 S Laborer - Anykind
Haskett, Marie Lodger F Neg 22 S Washing Laundry

(1) Rosetta was born ca 1865 in Louisiana, as were her parents. [But was this accurate?]
(2) She appears as a 70 year old in the 1930 Census of Caddo, Shreveport living with her 'daughter', Fanny ANDERSON (single)
(3) Fanny Anderson was the head of household w/no Anderson children.

Fanny and both parents were listed as being born in LA. [True?]
(4) In the household are others (lodgers), a 25 year old male (J.W.), and a 22 year old female (Marie) - relationship not determined.

I needed more information on Rosetta Miller.
(1) What was her husband's name?
(2) Could that lead to her 'maiden' name?

Records to search:
(1) Marriage / Death record or Death record of a child.

I looked for a death record (online).
Rosetta was not found in the ONLINE Louisiana death index (1900-1949). Rose/Rosetta could (possible) have lived another 20 years, dying in the 1950's, but would have been close to 90.

A Fannie Anderson was found.
+++ Fannie Anderson d. Dec 1937 in Caddo parish ²

Until I had more information on Rosetta, I decided to continue my armchair research with the US Population Census (1920).

1920 ²

Looking for Rosetta Miller, with other children/husband
a) 1920 Census for Bossier Parish, LA (Ward 2, Page 10)
Miller, Rosetta Hd F B 52 widow LA GA(2)
______, Milkie dau F B 33
______, Perla B. G-dau F Mu 15 S
______, Andrew G-son M B 13 S
______, Minnie S. G-dau F B 11 S

More knowns:
****** Rosetta's husband (Miller?) died before 1920
****** Rosetta had another daughter, Milkie. [or was that Fannie?]
****** There were three grandchildren, all old enough to have married by 1930.
Note: I chose to continue the Census research. Next stop: 1910

1910 ²

b) 1910 Census for Bossier Parish, LA (Ward 2, page 8 )
Miller, Andrew G. Hd M B 51 Married 35 years
______, Rosetta Wf F B 50 Married 35 yrs, 2 living children (of 4 born)
Barton, Verda G-dau F Mu 5 S
______, Andrew G-son M Mu 4 S
______, Minnie S. G-dau F Mu 1 S
Barton, Ben Hd M B 24 Married 5 yrs
______, Milkie Wf F B 28 3 living children (of 3 born)

(1) Rosetta married Andrew G. Miller about 1875 (per Census report)
(2) Andrew G. Miller died sometime between 1910 and 1920.
(3) There was a 'Milkie Barton' in the house (a daughter?).
(4) Fannie was not in the house by 1910 (at 15?). She could have been the second living child, IF she were a daughter. Was she already married (Anderson) or was she living with relatives?

Note:Look for a marriage record ca 1875

c) Marriage Record (Rosetta ??? m. Andrew G. Miller)
(1) Only one record found in Bossier parish:
___ Andrew Miller m. Rosa TAYLOR in July 1875, Bossier parish
Rosetta/Rosa's maiden name was TAYLOR.

I decided to continue my search of census records for 1900, 1880, 1870.

1900 ²

1900 Census for Bossier Parish, LA (Ward 2, Pg 88A)
Miller, A G Hd 46 m. 24 years
______, Rosa Wf 44 2 living children (of 4)
______, Fannie dau F B 22 Single
______, Milkie dau F B 33 S

Note: There are several Millers living near by. Perhaps there are Taylors as well. I decide to revist the census after searching for Rosa/Rosetta in earlier census records. Perhaps in the house of her parents and siblings.

1880 ²

1880 Census for Bossier Parish (Ward 2?, page 66C)
This time, Andrew and Rosa are enumerated with a Peter Johnson family.
Miller, Andrew B M 26
______, Rosetta B F 22 Wf
______, Fannie B F 3 dau
______, Rosa B F 2 dau
______, Sallie B F 6/12 (Nov) dau

Note: Since Rosa/Rosetta was born ca 1858-1860, I attempted to find her in 1870 (hopefully, with parents).

1870 ²
1870 Census for Bossier parish - there were two Taylor matches (Ros*). One was a 25 year old female born in VA (1845). The other was a 'Ross' Taylor, female, born in LA in 1859. I decided to look at 'Ross Taylor'.

1870 Census - Bossier Parish, LA (Ward 2, page 153)
Found an 11 year old Rose (indexed Ross) with Moses and Hannah.
Tayloy, Moses 50 M B Farmer GA
______, Hannah 40 F Keeping House AL
______, Rose 11 F B LA
______, Hellen 6 F B LA
______, Lucinda 5 F B LA
______, Moses 2 M B LA

I THINK this is the right Rose, however, I decided to scan the neighborhood to see if I could find anyone else that would help link THIS Rose to our Rosetta Taylor Miller. [The marriage record would be a first suggestion, however, this is ONLINE.]
