DID YOU KNOW?????
After the Freedmen's Saving & Loan Company failed, many people were left with passbooks and account information for their accounts in the bank. Many of the depositors and their heirs, filed claims requesting their money. The Controller of Currency was put in charge of these claims. As proof that they were depositors, they were asked to send in the passbooks and account statements. Many of these records still exist in the records of the Controller of Currency's Office. They are a part of National Archives Record Group 101 in College Park, MD.
