One of the duties of the Freedmen's Bureau was to 'solemnize' the marriages of former slaves. Some of these records were entered into local county/parish marriage books. Other, however, were only recorded in the records of The Bureau of Refugees, Freedmen and Abandoned Lands (RG 105).
