This is just too frustrating for words.
Yet another example of help being turned away.
Walter Johnson used the New Orleans notarial records as the main source for "Soul by Soul: Life Inside the Antebellum Slave Market" (Harvard University Press, 2001). Most of the records he used had never been looked at since they were originally filed 150-200 years ago. They are not microfilmed.
What is the point of saving our lives if we willfully destroy our history?
I suppose it is unfair of me to ask what else we should expect from an administration that thinks the ruins of ancient Babylon are a great place to build an Army basecamp in Iraq.
