Phinston? Andrews, freedman of Columbus (GA), stated that he married the daughter of Enoch Johnson, white man, late of Russell Co. Ala. - that Johnson removed to Mansfield, De Soto Paris, Lou. about 1861 - that Johnson owned the mother of Andrew's wife, and that he left a house and lot in this city to said wife - that Wiley Williams of Columbus had the management of the properties and will not put him in Possession, and refuses to do so because recipients were slaves at the time of the bequest. David Johnson, brother of Enoch, lives in Jackson, Miss. The mother of Phinston's wife lives in Mansfield, Lou. Julia Andrews (the wife) died in 1862. Have written to the parties in Mansfield, Jackson & Canton, Ark., but May 26, 1868 have received no answers.

July 24th, 1867 - Wrote to the Agent of Bureau NC requesting him to look after Millie, a child about 16 years of age, who is the daughter of Matilda Stephens of this city (Columbus GA) and was taken to NC by John Gregory about Oct 12, 1865. Gregory now proposes to take the girl to Texas, to which the parent objects. July 25th - Bureau ????? (illegible) my original letter and answer to service - the child went to Texas with Mr. Gregory.

Sept 12, 1867

Matilda Samuel, formerly Matilda Reeves, also Matilda Stephens, freedwoman, states that her daughter Emma about 16 years of age, gave birth to a child on the 28th of July last and (first name blank) Dozier is the father of the child. Matilda prays the father be compelled to support the child.

Aug 15, 1867

Took Affidavit of Paul Simpson who states his daughter Amanda, about 13 years of age is in the employ of Dr. James Huff, near Hard Money in Stewart Co., Geo. The mother is dead.

The case was examined into by the Agt. at Cuthbert, Geo. who reported that the Father was supposed to be dead and had never applied for the child. The Agt. asked that the Father pay the expense. The Father is a poor blind old man. The child has since returned to its Father.

Huberd Hall, freedman, swears that his daughter Parthena, 11 years old, is in the possession & employ of William Hall of Talbot Co., Geo. Huberd prays he may be put in possession of her. He also swears said Hall owes him for his services for 1866 - $50 for wages, also for clothes, corn & potatoes, and ????????? (illegible) for hauling.

Victoria Chapman, freedwoman complains that Clifford Coleman is the father of a child, now 10 mos. old, by her, and that he refuses to provide for said child. Victoria prays he may be compelled to maintain the child.
