Silva, color'd woman, has taken Ed, a little boy belonging to John Simpson, now confined in our County Jail under sentence of death, his wife having recently died & left 8 children. Four of them were previously provided for during the ????? (illegible). Silva is to keep Ed till I call for him.

Mrs. Oliver Saunders has Frederick, son of John Simpson on same terms above.

Jane Jones, wife of Edward Jones, has John, son of John Simpson.

The above are to feed, clothe, & educate the children and hold them subject to the call of the Bureau. John Simpson was sentenced to be hung, for murder, on the 10th day of April 1868, but was reprieved.

Catharine Wardlaw of Chatt(ahoochee) Co. wants a child now in the possession of Mr. Edmund Jackson of Stewart (Co.). She represents that Mr. J. had two of her children, but the older ran away from him and came to her last summer. Suggested to her that such might be the shortest way for her to come in possession off the remaining child.

There are a great many parents claiming children, but on account of the determination of person who have them in possession in Counties below this, most of the parents will not get them.

Emanuel Johnson, You are ordered to appear at this office on receipt of this note for the propose of explaining your position & the relation you bear to Mary Ann Cleckley and Maria Bramam?
C.W. Chapman Agent

The Parties above appeared the same day and after hearing the statement of both parties, I gave it as my opinion that the parties were not husband & wife according to the laws of Geo., they having separated in April 1865. Emanuel stated that he had no wife, although he did cohabit with Maria. Dismissed him with an admonition.
