Sacramento Newspaper Article 1871
![]() In renewing my search to discover how my 2nd great-grandfather, William Adams, made the trek from Urbana, Ohio to Sacramento, California ca 1859-60 I've started reviewing online Sacramento newspapers. We already have documents placing William Adams in Sacramento, CA from the 1861 & 1868 Sacramento City Directories, 1870 census and voter registration records, 1871 death & burial records and the 1864 estate settlement record for his father, Lewis Adams, where it states "William Adams of California paid $3,000 cash in hand" for his siblings share of their father's estate. Lewis Adams Estate Settlement
We now find this notice in the Sacramento Daily Union, Volume 41, Number 7279, 12 September 1871 — THE COURTS. William Adams died in Sacramento, CA 25 Aug 1871 and his remains are buried in the memorial plot of East Lawn Memorial Cemetery for those formerly interred at the New Helvetia Cemetery between 1849-1912. The H. Reno appointed Executor of the William Adams Will is a 1st cousin who followed William Adams to California and is found in the 1870 census records for Cache Creek Twp., Yolo County, CA as Robert Reno. He is found on other records as Robert H. (Henry) Reno and Henry died in Oakland, CA between 1910-1920. This was another "nice" find concerning William Adams life and death in California. The task is still to find the "how" he got to California. Any tips on wagon train research, their arrival in Sacramento and/or a manifest listing of those arriving in Sacramento would be greatly appreciated. Now to write the Sacramento County Probate Court on the procedures for obtaining a copy of the Will. Whoopie!!! Art Thomas Art's Families & Other Folk
