Robert, tell us, is the Kalamazoo Gazette a black paper?

It sounds as if your folks were in the Kalamazoo & Grand Rapids areas in the latter part of the 19th century and some of the 20th. I was doing some research on a family who was in Kalamazoo and Van Buren Counties during roughly the same period. I found them in the Freeman (IN) so you may want to check there. Also, I believe that the Plaindealer (MI) is extant for a few years around 1890--it may be digitized on Genealogybank as well.
