Re: Confederates of Color
In Response To: Re: Confederates of Color ()
As Tom knows-I'm very anal about trying to find the truth, whereever it lies-and as I always say-just because it's in print doesn't make it fact! The best thing I can say to anyone is to read critically, question everything, and then try and find the proof to back it up. In the case of documentation backing up the use of slaves and freedmen as tools to free the soldiers from common labor, and the hostility and fear that the thought of armed Blacks evoked-the sheer volume is monumental. Unfortunately-supporting documentation seems illusory at best-
But don't take my word any more than anyone elses-I can give you lots of sources, but you need to make your own conclusions. I was born in Northern Michigan-and raised on the Navajo rez....and I remember many a "deer" in hunting season that mysteriously had an udder or a bridle.
Tom, as usual you are the voice of reason to temper my ranting and sputtering-and I totally agree. But I can no more quit digging for the truth then voluntarily stop breathing-or screaming out in frustration when people find it easier to believe the spoon feeding than look beneath the surface. My favorite quote remains the same "Only when the lions have historians will the hunters cease to be heroes.".....guess it's the carnivore in me
