"Black Army Air Corp Units in World War II

I am trying to find out what "Black Army Air Corp Units" in World War II were in Northern Africa in 1943/44/45 (I am not sure). My father enlisted in the Army Air Corp in 1943 (Cumberbland County) North Carolina. I remember my father telling me that he was fighting with his unit in Northern Africa and that he was a gunnery Sargent(whatever that was). He mentioned being in France (probably there being transported to Africa) I am trying to find out what his unit was. My father is deceased now. I have request his military records, but I received a letter that a lot of those records were burned in a fire and I cannot get them. I believed that he registerd in the county that he died in and I will check to see if he has records there. My father did not talk much about World War II nor the Korean War, he was affected by them both. My father did mention about the time his unit was in Northern Africa and he said that the Black Army units were put in front of the White Army units, but that the Germans knew that they were put in front (long story). I have searched many sites, but cannot come up with a site for Black Army units in Norhtern Africa in World War II.
