Re: Civ. War Pension records Dennis WEAVER, VA

I've ordered 3 of them so far. One of them was only 3 pages, and this ancestor didn't have a pension. But, it was helpful in that it gave his age, description, where he was born and whether he was present of absent. Even though it was small, finding out where he was born helped me find the slave owner and other ancestors, I hadn't even though about looking in the county where this ancestor was from and it had the nerve to knock down that brick wall!! : )

Another that I ordered was a brother to the relative above and it had a little more pages with the same as above, but had other things like what he had purchased and also a page where he had enlisted. His place of birth led me to find out the family had been separated and sold between at least 2 counties.

The last had more pages than the first two. This packet had the same things as listed with the second soldier, but this ancestor was sick and took a long time to get back from a furlough, so there was a bit of comment about that.

I think that it just depends on the regiment as to how much information has been filled out. So, it might be hit or miss, but as you can see what I had at first thought was a miss with only 3 pages, turned out to be a gold mine for me!!

Good Luck!
