In SC the Chavis are mentioned also as intermarried with the Goins & Sweat families & as being members of the Redbone or Free Issues mixed race communities with connections with the Lumbee of NC & later with the Redbones of west Louisiana - east Texas areas whose ancestors had migrated from NC & SC in the early 1800s. Try the Sumter Co., area of SC there were some there in the 1800s. Hope this helps.
